ABOUT TRADITIONAL AND CULTURAL BODY WORK
Traditional Mexican body work warm environment sobada

Support and Tradition

Traditional and cultural bodywork—such as sobadas and cerradas de la cadera—is more than physical touch. It is a form of deep, intentional healing rooted in relationship, presence, and trust. Traditionally, this work takes time. It begins with getting to know the person as a whole—listening to their story, their body, and what they are carrying emotionally and mentally, not just physically.

These practices are meant to support balance and restoration, helping ease physical discomfort while also tending to emotional and mental well-being. The healing happens not only through the hands, but through connection, care, and being truly seen. It is a gift of presence—one that honors the body, the spirit, and the lived experiences of the person receiving it.

SOBADAS

Sobadas are a form of traditional bodywork rooted in Indigenous and Mexican healing practices, passed down through generations of parteras and caregivers. This gentle, intentional touch has long been used to support people during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Offered prenatally and postpartum, sobadas can help ease physical tension, encourage relaxation, and support reconnection with the body during times of deep change. More than bodywork, sobadas create space to rest, release, and feel held—honoring pregnancy and postpartum as meaningful life transitions. The sobadas I offer are consent-based, trauma-informed, and adapted to meet each person where they are, with care and respect for culture and comfort.Sliding scale available  — inquire for details

CERRADA DE LAS CADERRAS

Cerrada de las Caderas (also known in some regions as Closing of the Bones) is a traditional postpartum ceremony practiced in many Indigenous and mestizo communities across Mexico, Central America, and parts of Latin America. Its roots come from Indigenous midwifery traditions, where birth was understood not only as a physical event, but as a spiritual, emotional, and energetic opening of the body. After pregnancy and birth—sometimes weeks, months, or even years later—this ceremony was used to help close, realign, and ground the birthing person after such a profound transition.
